Lyla Moore

Doula in Training

Deeply committed to supporting women and growing families during the childbearing year, Lyla believes that this transformational and sacred stage of life has the potential to be truly empowering.  As a natural nurturer and mindful listener, she is honored to hold space for couples to grow into their role as parents.  Lyla attended her first birth in 2004 as support for a close friend.  Not only did she witness the awe-inspiring power of birth for the first time, but also how hospital birth with minimal preparation may unfold.  In 2010 Lyla supported her friend during her second birth.  At this birth, she not only witnessed the beauty of a loving, supportive partner’s presence, but also challenges that arose when labor stalled in the hospital and multiple interventions were offered and/or imposed upon her friend.  After this birth, Lyla was inspired to become a doula to advocate for and support birthing women.

Life has it's twists and turns, and the path to becoming a doula would take several more years for Lyla. Three months after attending her friend's second birth, Lyla became pregnant for the first time.  She received care from a Licensed Home Birth Midwife and gave birth to her son at home in 2011.  In 2014, with the same attending midwife, she gave birth to her second son at home.

Lyla’s background in yoga helped her prepare for her births immensely.  She found yoga while at San Francisco State University earning her B.A. in psychology.  Having had a regular practice since 2000, becoming certified to teach in 2008, and then certified to teach Pre and Post Natal Yoga in 2010, relying on the breath to navigate the intensity of birth became second nature.  Lyla found that the best way she could support pregnant women and new moms while her kids were young was by teaching prenatal and postpartum yoga, and in 2012 she began to share the tools which were so helpful in her own experience.

Lyla makes her home with her family on a small farm in Windsor, CA.  At home she is happiest in the kitchen, the garden, and caring for her many animals, including 2 dogs, a cat, hens and rabbits.  The forest and the ocean soothe her soul, as does spending time family and friends.  It is with much gratitude that Lyla is able to do work that is in alignment with her greatest passions.
